John Brown, an abolitionist, plans a raid at Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, to free slaves from their owners. Brown has many followers, but also many who are opposed to his plans of raiding the southern plantations. Shields, a slave, is in love with his wife and will do anything to protect and free his family; even if it means risking his life. In an odd series of events, these two men meet together and fight in the raid for the same goal to free the slaves. This was an event that leads to the start of the civil war.
