SAS's Enterprise Miner and the IBM Intelligent Miner products have powerful
techniques for analyzing data and for model building and testing. These
products also have excellent data visualization modules; but in addition,
CMU-RC's GIS application software can produce informative cartograms. The
team members are trained in a structured and disciplined analysis and
modeling process. The process starts with a critical data cleansing
activity; continues with a pattern recognition step; models are built from
first principles considerations and hypotheses conjectured from patterns
that were discovered in the previous step.
