Data Mining

CMU-RC draws upon a sophisticated combination of advanced hardware, software and data mining techniques to achieve unique solutions based on a client’s specific needs. At CMU-RC, we focus on data mining techniques such as:

Clustering: In a retail setting, clustering might be used to identify similarities in purchasing patterns among customers with similar socio-demographic profiles.

Classification: In the healthcare industry, classification can be used to group patients into disease-risk classes using data from health physical test results.

Prediction: Fundamentally, prediction is used as a forecasting tool. Prediction is often used to forecast information such as future product sales and weather patterns based on historical trends.

Associations: Associations seek to identify naturally grouped events or items. For instance, if a customer at a grocery store buys a gallon of milk, are there other items that customer is likely to buy at the same time?

Sequential Patterns: A version of an association technique, sequential patterns correlated elements where there exists a significant amount of time between each event. For instance, if an individual from a specific socio-demographic group applies for a credit card, how often will others from that same group apply for credit cards within the next three months?
Conversely, sequential patterns may also be employed when a pair of elements is specified and the time periods are reported accordingly. For instance, if an individual applies for a credit card and ATM card, how often do these two events occur within the same week, month or year?

Similar Time Series: A similar time series technique clusters a group of events or elements based on their similarity of pattern over a chronological measure to time. For instance, this technique is commonly used to group retail products with similar shifts in sales volume over a yearly cycle.
